Develop internationally accredited continuing education courses
CMEPEDIA gives authors the opportunity to write and publish internationally accredited Continuing Medical Education (CME), Continuing Nursing Education (CNE), Continuing Dental Education (CDE) and other continuing education courses for healthcare professionals.
Our content partner, ACCRECENT, manages the process of developing, accrediting and supporting your content. You can also register if you are interested in contributing as a peer reviewer for a course or as a speaker for a CME, CNE or CDE webinar.
Authorship opportunities are open to doctors, nurses, dentists and other healthcare professionals, as well as healthcare students and patient representatives.
To meet the applicable accreditation criteria, at least one physician must be involved as a co-author.
Step 1 - Register as an author
Create your author account and complete your profile on CMEPEDIA.
CMEPEDIA will review and verify the information provided. You will be notified once your profile has been approved.
Step 2 - Log in and update your declaration of interest
After your profile has been verified, log in to your CMEPEDIA account and complete your declaration of interest.
Your declaration will be reviewed to identify any interests that may need to be managed before you participate in course development, peer review or a webinar.
Step 3 - Share your course or educational idea
You can contribute in one of three ways:
- Upload an existing course for review and accreditation
- Submit a new educational idea and receive support in developing it
- Apply to author a topic proposed by ACCRECENT
CMEPEDIA and ACCRECENT do not support the unnecessary production of duplicate educational content. If your proposed topic is already covered, you may be asked to submit an alternative topic or approach.
Step 4 - Develop the educational activity
ACCRECENT guides you through course development and helps ensure that the activity meets the applicable educational and accreditation standards.
This may include support with course structure, learning objectives, references, and assessments.
Step 5 - Complete independent peer review
The educational activity undergoes independent and anonymous peer review during development.
You will receive feedback and may be asked to revise the activity before it is submitted for accreditation or approved for publication. The peer reviewer is selected from outside your institution. Once the course is published, the reviewer’s professional profile will be displayed on the course overview page.
Step 6 - Publish and track your activity
Once the activity is approved and published on CMEPEDIA, you can use your author dashboard to monitor course and webinar views, learner participation, engagement,
feedback and purchases where applicable. You may also receive notifications when updates or renewals are required.
ACCRECENT supports authors throughout course development and accreditation.
This includes:
- Providing guidance on educational and accreditation standards
- Coordinating course development and editorial review
- Arranging independent peer review
- Supporting ethical and regulatory compliance
- Managing international accreditation applications
- Covering accreditation costs where this is included in the author agreement or project arrangement
Educational activities may be published free of cost or as paid resources, depending on the activity and agreement.
Author remuneration may include:
- A one-time honorarium
- An agreed revenue-sharing arrangement
- Another payment model set out in the author agreement
The remuneration structure is agreed with ACCRECENT before or during the development process.
Accredited content must remain unchanged during the accreditation validity period unless an update is reviewed and approved through the appropriate process.
Course accreditation is generally valid for a defined accreditation period, which may be two years depending on the accrediting body. ACCRECENT may contact the author to:
- Review whether the activity remains clinically and educationally relevant
- Identify changes in guidelines, evidence or practice
- Confirm the author’s current declaration of interest
- Decide whether the activity should be updated and submitted for renewed accreditation
If renewal is not appropriate, ACCRECENT may explain why the activity will not be renewed.
CMEPEDIA and ACCRECENT may work with authors to adapt suitable educational activities for use in other countries.
The original author remains the principal contributor to the core educational content. A local co-author or reviewer may update country-specific information such as:
- Laws and regulations
- Clinical guidelines
- Healthcare systems
- Referral pathways
- Local professional requirements
For example, an activity on forensic DNA sampling developed for India could be adapted for Nepal. The original author would remain responsible for the core scientific content, while a Nepalese contributor would revise the legal and regulatory information for local use.
